Case studies

Examples of processes that are no longer done by hand

Four projects from logistics, security services, pension administration and finance. The descriptions are limited to what was actually built – no estimated time savings and no invented figures. Client names appear as soon as the respective client's written permission is in.

AnonymisedLogistics

Calculating road distances for quotes automatically

Starting point
A logistics provider had to determine the road distance between locations for every quote. That was done by hand: look up, transfer, continue calculating. Time-consuming, error-prone and hard to trace afterwards.
Implementation
A tool links the tariff data from TARIS with the routing service OpenRouteService and calculates the distances automatically. The result feeds straight into the existing calculation.
Result
Distances are available at the push of a button, on one consistent basis for all quotes. The calculation is documented and can be traced at any time.
Technology used
TARIS tariff data, OpenRouteService (routing API), connection to the existing calculation

AnonymisedSecurity services

Quote calculation as a web application

Starting point
At a security services company, quote calculation ran in an Excel file that grew more complex with every quote. Several people needed access; versions drifted apart.
Implementation
The calculation logic was moved into a lean web application with central data storage. Developed in short steps and tested with real quotes from day-to-day business.
Result
The application is now operated independently by the client. Quotes are produced on a shared data basis and are traceable.
Technology used
Custom web application with database, handed over for independent operation

AnonymisedPension administration

Extracting figures from published annual financial statements

Starting point
A pension administration consultancy picked details on pension provisions out of annual statements in the Bundesanzeiger company by company – by hand and at considerable effort.
Implementation
A Python pipeline retrieves the statements, identifies the relevant sections and reads the figures out in structured form. Validation steps safeguard data quality.
Result
Instead of one-off research there is a repeatable, logged data basis for analysis and sales.
Technology used
Python, automated retrieval from the Bundesanzeiger, structured output

AnonymisedFinance

Evaluations and reports for a financial services firm

Starting point
Figures were evaluated manually according to the client's criteria and transferred into reports. The workflow was slow and depended on individual people.
Implementation
A tool automates the evaluation according to the client's criteria and generates reports in a fixed format. The evaluation logic remains the client's property and is not described here.
Result
Recurring reports are produced consistently and with far less manual work.
Technology used
Automated evaluation and report generation; technical details not published at the client's request

In a conversation I am happy to describe in more detail what came out of comparable projects and what it achieved – and whether that transfers to your workflow.
